Perkins 6-354 raw water pump location?

Hi all,
Sorry about bothering everyone, but I am having a hell of a time finding the water pump">raw water pump on my perkins 6-354 engine. The boat is a 1972 Morgan 41 Out Island Ketch. Engine room is dark and hard to see and get in there, but so far this is what it looks like from my perspective:

Thru hull R/W fitting to mounted strainer;
Strainer to ??? looks like R/W inlet for expansion tank? Cannot find any schematics to help either...
line out of engine to exhaust...

Is the pump internal on the early Perkins engines? I was looking for a jabsco impeller type pump off the R/W intake. I may be missing it but its definitely messing with me. lol. Thanks in advance for any information or pictures of where yours is located for reference.

Re: Perkins 6-354 raw water pump location?

Mine (T6.354 turbo) is on the port side of the engine, near the center, close in near the block and a bit tight to reach. It's a regular impeller pump. Look for the round, flat cover with screws around the edges.

I have some manuals, PM me if interested. I think most of them were downloaded from links posted on this forum, so shouldn't be too hard to find and download on your own.

Sorry about the pictures. They loaded sideways for some reason.

Sure looks like it. Remove the four bolts and you should be able to pop out the impeller. It looks a bit different from mine, which had slotted head bolts. You might luck out and be able to look up that part number on the plate and match it up to a pump make and model.

Thank you! Yes I was hesitant without a gasket kit just in case. Maybe I will just get some gasket material and cut one manually. Pray impeller is intact

Re: Perkins 6-354 raw water pump location?

I am rather confused. The 6-354 is a 6 cylinder 120HP engine
https://www.perkins.com/en_GB/compan...-a-legend.html

Why in a 41' Out Islander?

My 48' Mayflower has a 4-236. 80-85HP.

And the sea water pump is located port side forward with the impeller facing aft. Easiest to remove the pump to replace the impeller. I used rtv gasketing sealant for the cover. I replaced the mechanical seal instead of spending $700 for a new pump.

If there are signs of rust or water under the pump, then time for a rebuild.

Appreciate the help! I am not sure why its in there, but it appears to have been factory. I will check the engine on saturday when I go back down for the RW pump location. Thank you! Will get another tube of RTV and go that route. I normally will use the original gasket kit if I can get one.

I'd do a little research and get the right impeller and gasket. Not terribly expensive and once you have the pump model number it's easy to look up the right part. If you go to the trouble of pulling off the back plate, might as well replace the impeller and gasket while you're in there. Worst case both are fine and you have slightly used spares for an emergency. Plus you can inspect the inside surfaces for scoring, so you'll know what you need to order for next time.

The Perkins 6-354 marine raw water pump is below and behind the injector pump and on your Morgan it will likely be very hard to get to. Here’s a pic of the coupling that drives the pump which is hidden from view by the oil cooler housing. Click image for larger version

Found and inspected today! Looks to be in good condition! Thank you all for the help. (Impeller, not the rest of the engine lol)

Re: Perkins 6-354 raw water pump location?

I'd replace the impeller anyway. Sherwood 10615K is the kit with impeller and several different gaskets.
