Re: Over heating

That's the place to start. Unfortunately, if it's already overheating, the impeller may have broken up. The parts can get lodged in other parts of the cooling system, and will haunt you for years. Make sure you account for them ALL.

They guy in the next slip has been taking apart and cleaning out his cooling system, piece by piece, for over a year. Only now, after removing and cleaning (or replacing) every single component, are things looking better. We think he finally got the last pieces of impeller out of one of the heat exchangers a couple of weeks ago.

There are other possibilities; problems with heat exchangers, hoses, intakes, impeller wear plates, etc.

Re: Over heating

Check the low-hanging fruit first. Make sure your filter basket is clean. Believe it or not, make sure the hoses are oriented properly leaving the filter basket. Check for growth on the inside of the raw water intake. Check the belts around the water pump">raw water pump to make sure that the pump is spinning appropriately. also, check the mixing elbow. If there's any corrosion inside the mixing elbow you'll have reduced row water flow which can lead to overheating.
