Oil Level on Dipstick Varies Each Time I Check it

As others have said, temperatures and gas pressures (Boyle's Law) can affect readings on your dip stick. I do wait for the engine to cool for an accurate reading and I do remove the oil fill cap to equilibrate pressures before checking the oil.

I got the copy of the book to load and page 217 says its probably debris in the oil pan and requires immediate attention especially if its a metal chip.
