Re: oil change pump recommendations

Although not small, I like the Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus, because it has a switchable valve to pump the waste oil out of the vacuum chamber into another container for proper disposal, making it very clean (no spills). I bought mine at Amazon.com: Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus: Automotive

Re: oil change pump recommendations

I use a drill pump from Homedepot. It is designed for water, but works great and I get about 6 changes before it dies. At $6 bucks each, I just keep a second one and switch over the hoses when the first dies.

Two thumbs up for the West Marine vacuum type. I have the 2.8 qt size. Works much better than I would have guessed, even on cold oil. Turns an oil change into a 1 paper towel deal. I have tried the hand pump which leaks a bit during use as well as dribbling when stored. Never had much success with drill pumps, as they are usually for bigger garden hoses rather than a dipstick tube sized snake.

Re: oil change pump recommendations

Why do you prefer manual? After doing this for the first time with an electric pump, I couldn't imagine using a manual pump.

I feel like I'd need a 3rd hand, or a helper if I had a manual pump. I got an electric pump on Amazon for about $17. Honestly, I'm not sure it would last through multiple oil changes a year. It got a little hot when I used it (I guess that's kinda expected, since hot liquid is going through it).

But it worked great when I changed the oil on my Jet boat (twin engine).

The post I followed was specific to a boat oil change using an electric oil extractor.
