Merc 9.9 seems starved for fuel on idle

We have a relatively new 9.9 on our 10.2' Highfield. Gas tank is in bow storage. After start and engine idle drops down, the unit will shut off. The same happens when we drop to idle after running for awhile.

Typically, pumping the fuel ball will get us back on track. I'm wondering if the 9.9 fuel pump can handle the draw w/ around 10' of fuel line?

Cheers!

There is a screw adjust for idle and one for fast idle.

Fast idle is plunger half extended. Does it stall there also?

Team Karst,

Nope... seems to only happen on idle. I've adjusted the idle up a pinch earlier, but wondering why the fuel ball isn't full after engines engaged... unless the idles too low and doesn't pull enough fuel up

Maybe air leak upstream of the ball.

Re: Merc 9.9 seems starved for fuel on idle

Is the fuel level well above the pickup so that sloshing fuel doesn't allow air to be taken in?

An air leak beyond the bulb should result in fuel leaking out there when you use the primer bulb, so if you aren't seeing leaks, that doesn't seem likely.

Does it run better with the choke out? This will indicate dirty carb jets.
