Lightest 10-15hp outboard?

Hi,
I built a lightweight 13x4.5’ carbon/foam dingy.
What’s the lightest 10-15hp outboard?

The Yamaha 2-stoke in the picture is a good choice. I prefer my Mercury 15hp 2-stroke made in the USA. Unfortunately you can buy neither in the USA however they may be available used, and they are still sold in other countries.

No 4-stroke motors approach the low weight and simplicity of a 2-stroke, and they are more bulky. 2-strokes however use more fuel (which BTW has to be mixed with oil for lubrication), and pollute the marine environment.

All the good 2T outboard in the 8-15hp are around 26kg.

In terms of the 4T the Selva Black Bass 8hp is probably the lighest in that rough power band at 27kg. In comparison a Honda 8hp-10hp 4T is 42kg (dry)

How heavy is the dinghy? Was it fun to build?

Have yet to get it on a scale, but I’d guess it’s around 100lbs. Still have to finish fairing, then prime and paint. Add other fittings, etc. so maybe 120lb when finished.

It was fun to build, but a lot of work!

If you can get one the Lesiure not Enduro Yamaha 15 is I believe about 85 lbs, they are two stroke.
The lightest four stroke I know of is the Suzuki, and the 9.9, 15 and the 20 are all 99 lbs as they are all the same motor, so if you go that route I’d recommend the 20 even if you don’t need the power, it’s there if you ever did, say to pull a boat off of a sand bar or something.
