There are fluorescent tracer dyes used to find oil leaks (see the link below), in your case you would add the dye to the crankcase and see if the dye appears in your fuel tank. If it does not not, the 'black' contamination is coming from somewhere other than the crankcase engine oil. You will need a UV light and a darkened environment to see the fluorescence in the fuel. Check the dirty fuel first, to find any background 'glow', before adding the dye.



Here is a different use, wherein the dye is used to see where the crankcase oil is leaking onto auto engine parts.
