50 hp diesel merc motor?????

hey guys ive got a question ???
my father has left me with a 14 m steel hulled yacht with a mercedes 50 hp diesel inboard in it ..I am just wondering if this is powerful enough for a 14 m thats steel seems underpowered to me ..i have not yet taken it for a spin an am curious how it will go .....

If she is a sailing yacht then 50 hp is probably adequate as an auxiliary. If it is a power yacht than 50 is going to be too little.

Yes its a cruiser a sailing yacht ..I am abit worried because i have plans to sail it home from New Zealand to Australia 1 day .

Sail is the key word. If you were planning to motor all the way it would be different. Without knowing a lot more about the boat, I would be OK with 50 hp.
