Would you choose an Endeavorcat 34 or Gemini 105mc to cross the Atlantic?

Yes I know people cross the ocean in a bathtub, but seriously, it your budget limited you to one of these older cats, would you be very comfortable/confident crossing the Atlantic in it?

A Prout Snowgoose would fit into the same price range and be much more suited for the job.

Even try Prout 33 or 34. Crossed Atlantic several times in one..... and Pacific. Easily handled single handed and oozes reliability. Yes for a little more the snowgoose but if solo it adds up if in a marina

Or one of the Solaris or Catalacs. Maybe an Edel 35 if interested in performance?

I for one don’t think the Gemini or Endeavorcat are a good choice for crossing an ocean, but was trying to be helpful mentioning some other cats in his price range that are maybe more appropriate for his needs.

I totally agree with you it being ugly. I'd much rather a shapely wooden yacht to look at.......until it came to maintenance. There are more eye pleasing cats but I've never seem a beautiful one.

I read many years a book ""Your first Atlantic crossing". It's advice was, When choosing a yacht buy one that smiles at you. The old prouts don't smile. They are British. They give a Churchilian Growl. But in a force 10, the worst I've been in, I'd rather be in one than a glamorous modern light weight. But no yacht is perfect. I just happened to feel perfectly safe in a Prout and to me it proven itself. And yes, if I could change it onto a "bird catcher" when i sailed into a marina.......Well that would be ideal. But Prouts are made for seas not necessarily for marinas

The OP asked which of those 2 cats people would recommend, I said neither......on topic. The OP also stated these 2 cats were in his budget, I mentioned others that may be in his budget and better suited for the purpose....on topic.

The Prouts probably have more safely sailed bluewater miles than any other cat, and possible monohull. They aren’t fast but have a great reputation for being seaworthy.
Another smaller cat that I think is really seaworthy is the Seawind 1000, though it may stretch the budget a little.

Can't find much info on the endeavor cat. I looked at the Gems and discounted them as IMHO they are coastal cruisers. Lightweight build, difficult to move around on the deck. Try going from the cockpit to the bow and notice how you have to thread your way past the rigging. This among other things was pointed out to me by a gem owner. Somone mentioned the Solaris. Ugh. The fatal flaw for me was the locations of the engines. All the way aft, under the bunks with a shelf above and the engine sandwiched into a custom compartment. I couldn't even imagine checking the oil at sea let alone working on it after removing the mattress, bedding etc just to get to it.

You only mentioned 2 types of boats. There are others including Island Packet's Packet Cat 35 which is what I chose. Better design by far. I looked at Prouts, Catalycs etc.
