There are hundreds of Wharram cats cruising the world. Seaworthy, safe, cheap to build, and mostly very basic boats. If you are happy with "backpacker" style cruising , there probably isn't a better way to do it.

i like mine better so ill pass, got all the undercoat on today so now i only have to sand it all of again, and hey the temp under my temp shed are only hitting 67 celsius making this man a camel

I don't see the point of self-induced torture by taking a vessel like this out on the ocean for months. Sure, he might survive...but why? What is he trying to prove and to who?

I saw this boat out at the Channel Islands this summer, sailing along nicely in very little breeze. Beautifull boat.

My impression is that his motivation has more to do with going sailing with what he can afford rather than self abuse. He will certainly be less comfortable than I will aboard my 46' with standing headroom and room to swing a hammock, but as I sit at work funneling more and more money into the boat his approach makes more and more sense.

David, Your post says much more about you than Glenn. We lived with Glenn on board for 2 weeks and were very comfortable. At that point he had been living aboard for a year and was far from suffering. He cruised full time for 10 years across the Pacific and into Asia on a smaller Wharram. All that time he never had a motor and never used a mooring or a slip. He built this boat because he enjoyed the life style and wanted it back. He is not interested in proving anything to anyone. Far from surviving he is truly living!

Bravo - I am pretty sure that this Glenn fellow probably doesnt need to seek anyones approval for what he is doing, I envy his single mindedness.

I say hats off to Glenn! The boat looks great and I would jump on anywhere at anytime! As they say, it's not the size that matters...One of my best and most memorable adventures (mind you, I've climbed NA longest Big Walls, 1000' frozen waterfalls, Himalayan peaks, and crossed oceans on bigger more comfortable boats) was sailing a Hobie 18 from San Felipe to La Paz, Mx. We were caught in lil chubascos, escorted by Sharks while reeling in Mahe Mahe, chased whales, had our decks covered with phosphorescence while dolphins created mind boggling streaks under the tramp...oh, did I mention how "jealous" we were of the big cruisers, or should I say how jealous of us they were when we would fly into the bay flying a hull and they barely had enough wind to fill the wind scoop to keep them from overheating in their hulls! We didn't have a big boat but we were living large and having a hell of an adventure! Here's a shot of us suffering at San Evaristo...
