Re: Used catamaran prices, availability during recession or crisis?
I can tell you that in Miami Dade all marinas are shutdown by order of the mayor until further notice. You can go to the boat for a few minutes and comeback ASAP. So you can forget about hauling out, so not much is helping to assess a boat for sale or purchase. Saying that, if you can find a panicked owner and has money in cash, you could in theory get a good deal. I highly doubt you could arrange financing since risk thresholds has gone significant, can’t do a proper survey, and on and on.

Are they allowing you to go to your boat and take it out permanently from the marina?

Those who think being isolated on a boat in a foreign country is a good thing are not really thinking through the consequences.
6 to 12 monthns Pricing is head down, like rock bottom , most income stopped, millions out of work, some boats will not be able to be given away as the holding expenses cannot be met, marina, insurance , repairs, registration etc
Issues that cruisers are facing right now.
- isolated in foreign country , unable to enter or exit
- Visa overstays, fines and potential jail terms
- unable to berth, buy food , fuel
- If you get sick from the CCP Virus most countrires have closed their boarders, medivac for expats cancelled if you have the virus.
- Security, ?
and this is just the start.

Re: Used catamaran prices, availability during recession or crisis?
You know who will be cutting deals in a worldwide economic down-turn, are the manufacturers! Just give it about 10-12 months from now. Some folks who put down deposits will walk away from their orders. Long waits for new models will evaporate. The builders will need revenue to pay for all that equipment and space they financed to ramp up production after the 2017 hurricanes. For the savvy buyer who has been eyeing a new model and isn't getting routed in the stock market, they should have some pretty sweet deals coming their way! Just be patient.

Many have income producing investments. At least the smart older people. They have very little to gain and everything to loose.

The rate of infection is an exponential function. Get someone who understands that to explain the math. If tens of millions of Americans do not take reasonable measures to self isolate for possibly months, we could see 150,000,000 infected.. 1,000,000 dead. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/coron...165843705.html

Go where? All countries are on lockdown, with no timetable for opening up to foreigners. Once things do calm down by June or July there will be new rules I’m guessing just like after 9/11.
Mandatory medical documentation with a clean bill of health from last port of call?
Temperatures will be taken and entry denied if you have a fever.
The Q flag will now really be a Q flag, you’ll have to sit for a week prior to being able to come ashore and have your temperatures taken.
Seriously how could it not change, because If it doesn’t we are just going to repeat this whole thing again in a few years.
Sadly this could be the end of circumnavigations and exploration of far off places as we knew it, that would really suck.

Re: Used catamaran prices, availability during recession or crisis?
It seems there are multiple opinions spanning a spectrum of circumstances and viewpoints. I find each of them to be right.
However, doing a little research spanning data acquisition and analysis throughout the previous 2 recessions, the data suggest that prices in general have declined - a definite correlation with the circumstances of the times.
I differentiate between the terms price, value, and bargain. They are all relative and subjective at any point in time

Re: Used catamaran prices, availability during recession or crisis?
For those that think prices wont come down I just received an email offering a $100,000 discount on a new Leopard Power Cat 43. The other day I received an offer of Show Boat pricing on a Leopard 40. While these are new while they are available any used boat prices are going to be depressed. This is the real world as it is today. If you don’t need to sell your boat don’t. Those that do know you will need to find a cash buyer. Loans will be difficult if not impossible until this virus thing starts to turnaround.
