She's floating pretty high, too!
I came across a tri in this position in the Atlantic off Virginia Beach about 20 years ago, while sailing my Hobie 16. A squall line had come through the previous evening. We hove to, and I dove over to check it out. Sails were still up and sheeted in (pointing straight down!), the outboard motor attached, but (thank Heaven) no one was on board. I don't know what my reaction would have been if I'd come face to face with a body when I popped up in the nacelles! I believe it was a Stilletto 27, if memory serves.
We sailed back to the beach, and a couple of hours later we saw a Coast Guard helicopter circling it, and then dropping smoke canisters. Later still, a salvage vessel came and took it under tow, mast down, headed for Hampton Roads. I never heard the "rest of the story", as Paul Harvey used to say.

The article said that winds were 20 kts and the Atlantic had a lumpy swell!
That's some really nasty conditions!!
Wait, no it isn't??
Oh now I see the problem. After further reading the cause is obvious
They bore away and buried two of the three bows. No wonder is flipped!
What I find really amassing is that this tri flipped while under the command of professionals.

About as amazing as a race car crashing while under the command of a professional driver.
These boats are designed to be fully powered in light conditions. The crew's job is to sail them at the absolute limit. Sometimes they get it wrong.

Sometimes race cars go into the wall, because they are on the edge. I don't see anyone giving up driving because of this?

The Pro driving was a mono driver. Yes there was a Pro multi sailor there training him, but students don't always do what the teacher tells them. To throw another analogy, try putting a Formula 1 driver in a top fuel drag racer or a top fuel drag racer in a Formula 1.

They were just saving money on the first bottom inspection (by DIY) 'cause they spent so much on the race gear that there was none left.

Some boats don't even need 20 knots of wind to get into trouble. They seem to find trouble while still tied to the dock. That ain't right. Glug, glug, glug

Gives me an idea. . . What if one could have floodable buoyancy tanks and an inflatable bladder on top of the mast? Flood the buoyancy tanks on one side, Inflate the bladder and use the dinghy to tow it the rest of the way over. Then you empty the buoyancy tanks and presto! A righted cat/tri!
You'd have to furl the sheets first. I think it'd work better on a cat than a tri, but you could do it with either.
... Wow, I'm getting another idea... Now I'm thinking of extending that Idea to making a shallow diving submarine... Man! This place is a goldmine! I've been here two weeks, and I'm designing a cat that can fly and dive!
