Have you looked at these yourself for some designs, would be interested to hear your detailed opinions?
Or even if you haven't which cat would you go for in this size range?
Also do you currently own one, which one and why did you go that way? If not now maybe the same for your last cat?

Re the Spirited 380, one concern I'd have is the ventilation of the saloon in tropical climates. As designed, there are large, heavily raked windows, but AFAIK only provision for one small hatch in the saloon. Something an onwer/builder could alter though.

He did say once that the best way to improve it's windward performance was to fit bigger engines....

We covered the saloon windows with a reflective membrane that significantly reduced the heat into the saloon area, Alan (44'cruisingcat), if I remember you used the same product.

Over the last summer in Queensland and the trip to New Caledonia, we never felt like heat or ventilation was a problem in the boat, if anything, there are too many hatches as we have never had or needed to have all of the hatches open.

The reflective tint works extremely well, reduces the heat coming through the windows by a huge amount, but some may not like the look. Glad to hear it works for you though.

Last summer in Qld was not really a "normal" one, it rained more often than not. But on a hot day in Sydney (40'C) we had all 11 hatches open on our boat, (4 of them in the saloon). Even with the reflective tinting.

Craig is very far from being an engineer and he did rely on free engineering given by his supplier. But this has limits.

A few of critical issues:

Rudder badly manufactured. Rebuilt them with a new shaft and close all the voids between the fibeglass and the foam

Dagger board, that one is the worst, you just cannot use them. They are dangerous. Built in two half and then glued together. Good builder with good process can acheive it properly. In our case the edges where glue for around 5 cm and the rest was a void. The outside skin was also full of void and not bonded to the foam core.

The prodder laminate schedule as to be reviewed, actually an aluminum one is much cheaper and easy to install than the composite one (I agree that it looks nice, but quie a job)

Push pull cable steering as in his drawing it just is not proper. Those cable have never been engineered to be used that way. It just one of those cheap idea that put you in trouble in critical time.

The engine hatche design is just not water proof enough.

Material delivered with the kit is really insufficient by a ratio of more than 2 and the hours are not realistic for a complete ready to sail boat

Spirited 380 Minx, it says 36ft. This happened today at 0935 EST.

Minx was the first 380 launched and was built by Stallion Marine in Yandina. Last I heard was that it was on its way back from Indonesia, so it could be the same boat. There is a cyclone brewing in the area, so conditions would not be too good right now.

Hope all is well this brings back mad memories for me as we lost our boat Wendera Spirit 380 on the 16th December 2010 Just wondering is the design of these boats up to Par. We got no feed back from the designer after our tragic loss of Wendera

Rodcat, I noticed you mention your 380 washed up on a beach 600nm from the capsize. Out of interest was that Tasmania or eastern Victoria somewhere?

Facts are still a little thin on the ground re Minx at present. BOM shows 13 to 18 SE on the 20th for that area.

I thought it was reported you hit an immovable object of some sort?
