We’ll I’ll be 69 soon, and we just sold our L450F in June, so I have plenty of time. For me, my age has only ever been a gauge to measure my ignorance! As long as we’re healthy it’ll be ok.

Hmmm, I guess I missed the Lagoon purchase. Seem to remember just a few years back you sold a Corsair, and were looking for something bigger. And only galley up. Thought all that time you were still shopping.

As an aside, I had a very dear friend who lost his boat in a hurricane in 2017. Loved to sail, especially the blue water crossings. Searched for a great deal on a Seawind up until last year, when he died unexpectedly on a tennis court. Which is why my comment. And I guess not applicable in your situation. But that said, he was very fit as well.

I am not in the market for a cat but my approach has always been:

Decide what type of boat (characteristics, size, etc) I want then find the best one of that type I can afford. Some times I found a new one, other times I wound up with a used one, but having the boat I wanted was vastly more important than having a shiny new one that didn't really light my fire.

If I wanted a Gunboat I would never buy a Lagoon regardless of it's price.

I cannot see settling for a compromise in the boat just because it is newer.

These are not commodities.

We’ll said. We owned the Lagoon 450F for 3 years, and while we enjoyed sailing on it for a few reasons (space, flybridge), and in the current market sold it easily, but I’d never have another. Now we’re looking for our final boat, and taking our time to get exactly the boat we want for the right reasons, not being driven by time, what’s available - or not - or what somebody else wants us to get, etc… My 94 year old father in law does want something easily accessible. He golfs twice a week but wants to go up and down the ICW here in Fort Lauderdale. 🙂
