Actually the only Laggon you can call a sailing cat, the rest a swimming containers with engines as main propulsion and rig as decoration...

Dry and secure. While at it, remove the port side water tank and put in 27G diesel tank. Still less weight than a full 300liter water tank.
While still in there, put in a 37 gph Rainman. And yes, there is still room for oil, filters, and work room. The sound shield is two piece, and only the 1/3 section needs to come off for impellor, and oil changes. 5.5kW powers my 3HP dive compressor also.
Do all that without genset and without an additonal fuel tank and you are lighter, have more space and one thing less to maintain.
Its easy to stick real 2500W of solar on a 380, with a >800AH Lithium bank and two Studer Extender XTM12/3500 and that drives your dive compressor and a fully electric galley. No nead for a genset...yes a little honda is always good just in case, except you do high lattiude but then a lagoon is the absolute wrong boat.

Re: Lagoon 38 for Cruising Opinions

My favorite for small low budget but sailing well is the FP Belize 43.
Extra waterline gives you less hobby horsing more speed and is more comfortable then 380.
much lighter and sails really well. Interior volume is identical to 380. The cockpit is very well protected also from waves from stern which for downwind sailing a real advantage.
Internally all nice rounded, no sharp edges. Not many wood panels that can get water damage and need to be maintained...instead nice gelcoated surfaces, easy to clean and maintenance free.
Thats the low budget outremer, very undervalued cat for bluewater cruising and therfor you get it for the same price then a 380.

Re: Lagoon 38 for Cruising Opinions

Lucia, Isla and also lipari are more comfy boats, especially in the cockpit layout they thought about space to stretch out and relax. On the Lagoon 380 it's a bit hard to find a spot to read and relax

there is a good price difference between the 380 and the other boats. Enough to cover a few years expenses.

Re: Lagoon 38 for Cruising Opinions

We have 3 x 410w on the arch, 3 x 200w on the Bimini Roof, and 8 x 100w on the saloon roof for 2630w. Plus we have a 400w portable that we lay out on the trampoline when we are on anchor for extended periods. We have 1890 amp/hour of Battleborn batteries. No Genset or propane on the boat. The picture was taken before we replaced the old 200w panels on the arch, removed one from the Binimi to add a hatch there and added 4 more to the saloon roof.

**added a second picture showing the current solar setup. We are changing the saloon roof panels when we get back from the Bahamas to a custom panel shaped to the roof for each side.
