Wow, that really depends. Let's see....

How friendly are they ? Will some sit on others laps ? Are there children ? How much does the average one weigh ? How much gear do you have on board ? Where are you going ? Are you going anywhere or just dockside ? Are we talking down below or just on deck or something in between ? Are you pulling a dinghy and would some be willing to sit in that ?

Lots of variables to think about.................. !

Average weighing 150 pounds, Normal (?) amount of gear? It’s just a cruise mile out of the marina, heeving to, and then back for about 5 hours.People can be on deck and cabin.

Stacking like cordwood could be anther option....

On a serious and legal note...The vessel has a placard from the manufacturer that has the legal load, human and gear, limits. You can receive a citation for exceeding these limits.

Now that is a good point that my sarcastic side did not stop to consider. Thanks for bringing sanity to the equation !

I’d be willing to bet that a boat the age of an Iroquois won’t have the placard. Our boat does not.

Depends where you are but most large cruising boats don't have such a placard.

Space to just stick people...easily a couple dozen.
Cargo capacity not to sink the boat...I didn't like more than around 10-12 people on our Gemini in the slip as the sterns sink down more than I like. I suspect Iroquis has even less capacity.

I suppose this is to run some day charter tour. Check legal requirements for this as in many developed countries there will be regulations and paperwork required for any professional tour. These regulations most likely define maximum allowed PAX.

If not regulated: 8 Americans, 10 Europeans, or 15-20 Chinese

Well, with a guesstimated combined hull volume of 960 cubic feet, 399.5328 @ 150lb each with no gear, 'loaded to the gunnels'...

Re: How many people can I fit on a 32’ Iroquois catamaran mk2?

The US requirement for Capacity Placards only applies to vessels under 20 feet manufactured after November 1972 - https://www.boatus.org/study-guide/boat/capacities/ Vessels of more than 20 feet aren't required to have labels, although boats up to 26 feet built to the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) standards adopted by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) do.

According to the interweb, there is no Federal law saying you cannot exceed the manufacturer's capacity, but there may be state laws, insurance or liability implications if things turn bad. In the end, it all comes down to comfort, judgement, and seamanship.

Two factors that no one has mentioned as you ponder your maximum capacity are (1) weather and (2) Plan B. If you're sure it's going to be a calm day, then you could probably carry a few more. More importantly, what are you going to do with all those inexperienced people if everything goes to hell? Do you have life jackets, medical stuff, contingency plans, etc. to handle that many folks?

When I was a teenager we put 14 in a VW Bug, so I'd guess "a lot more than 14."
