If you have not signed a contract do not do so.

If you have signed a contract, read it..i suspect that if you fail to pay your deposit the contract becomes void.

For a first boat..buy it in the USA if you are in the USA.. and do not buy a ex charter boat unless you are very very familiar with fixing boats

1) Make it clear and in writing that you pay nothing if the boat, post charter, is found lacking.


2) Pay nothing prior to receiving the survey.


3) No way to have anything done for free. Brokers and layers cost money.



You may save some money if you can appoint a person to represent you in situ. Maybe you have some sailing friends that you can trust and who are cruising this area?
