Re: GreenCat 605 first pictures

What a wonderful boat !

Could you provide some construction details of the retractable electric motors ? How deep in the water are the props ? Can the system also generate power ? How stable is the mounting ?

Re: GreenCat 605 first pictures

Thanks for the compliment David and Zonker, the props are forward mounted each has a max output of 20 Kw at 1500 rpm , the props are 1ft 6 in below the water once the boat is loaded, they can regenerate power , if I take the 10 Kw motors we use on the smaller cat as example then we can expect up to 8 Kw of power generated at 14 knots and about 1 Kw at 8 knots speed (each) , the mounting is done with hysraulic actuators that can take a large load and all other mounting parts are designed to take a load of 5000 nm or about double the expected load while regenerating at 14 knots.

Re: GreenCat 605 first pictures

Thanks Frank, yes it took a lot of effort to get her where she is now, we started building the plug in July 2009 so 3 years of work so far, another month to 6 weeks for tweaking and then testing.
greetings

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

A few more pictures as promised, the gears for the swing foils,an actuator, the port side steering station and one of the 4 cabins.
Each swing keel is driven by 2 hydraulic actuators to make the swing of 158 degrees from full up to full down or anywhere in between.
The steering position is chosen so that it is possible to stand under the bimini or outside of it.

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Gideon ... <<do you have pics of the interior and from the layout ?>> <-- found it

Also is it possible to publish the cost of the boat (all incl.) ?

PS : would be interesting to have a comparison table with GreenCat 605, Gunboat 66, Broadblue Rapier, Outremer 5X etc

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hallo Zonker, it is not allowed to publish prices on the Cruisersforum.
The cost varies a lot anyway, since many changes are possible. the Hull is not changeable but the interior is build to customers wishes. This 605 for instance has a small surgical theatre in the starboard forward hull, 3 generators ( 2 x DC and 1 AC, fully airconditioned.
Once the interior is fitted out with upholstery etc I will put pictures on the website of the finished inside ( and outside )
Kind regards

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Attached is a link to You tube for the first test sail , wind was minimal 5 to 7 knots but great to check all sails and systems, a few items need tweaking, but in general all is good .

the sailed speed was between 5 and 7.5 knots , under 75 % power the speed was 7.7 knots in calm water almost no wind.

More pictures will follow
Have a good weekend

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

What a nice and clean looking cat; wonder what she does in some wind; 7.7 knots is promising.

Wow, I want one. Today I got lucky and won Sunsails main price (two tickets for Hiswa); next stop: Staatsloterij.

Have fun tweaking.

Eric

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hallo Catsailor, the swing keels shoud increase performance a bit over dagger or centre boards, the main reason to go this route is more interior space especcially going forward to the operating theatre , no lost interior space. The safety is also a factor, if the force on the leeward keel becomes to high it swings in by way of an over pressure valve. The keels can be set to 90 degrees to create lift on a downwind track

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hi Gideon,

How much will the hull rise due to the lift in downwind mode; would be nice to see her really flying. In figure of speech I guess she will, but literally?
