Dean 33

Can someone give me some information about the dean 33, and compared with the Proud or the Catalac, are they similar? What about blue waters, are they ok??

Catalac - great liveaboard, well built, not good to windwardd, and not a large load carrier.

Prout - blue water cat with enormous pedigree. later models have reasonable load. speed faster than mono, but not much.

Dean - dont really know these cats, but understand that build quality is something you have to pay particular attention

The 33ft/35ft Dean cats were very heavy and as Talbot says, the build quality was suspect (I visited their yard and can confirm that)

There were 2 in Europe in the late 1990's, by chance both in my home marina at Millbrook. I sailed one with a yachting journalist on board. In light winds we were amazed when, coming up to a tack, the owner started the engine. "Otherwise we won't get round" he said

In S Africa in the 1990's they were considered "party boats" not real sailing boats.

I'd avoid one if I were you.
