Maybe we can talk Horta Harbor into changing the camera lens to one of these

then we can let him know if the repairs are being done up to cruisers forum standards

Somehow I could see him hanging a giant poster on the side of the boat of him giving us the middle finger so we can all see via webcam what he thinks about our critiques of his repairs

How do you know the "stuff" that failed was "worn out"?

He's a friendly, funny guy and as you've read by now a couple of posters actually do know him personally.
You could be a longtime lurker but with so many posts in a couple of months max, I figure you to be just as gabby as many of us; possibly more so.
Just never hurts to be polite, Cap. Ya never get a second chance to make a first impression.

sorry to here you read all my posts as criticism and offensive. All I did was make a statement that its in my opinion most on here has over dramatized Boatmans predicament and jumped the gun on sending out a rescue party. Its a forum, we get to have an opinion, you have yours, seems to trump mine !

He didn't exactly find the island. He got a tow to the island. He was in the vicinity of the island(s), and would have had a good idea of their bearing and distance before the electronics failed.

i think you might be over dramatizing things all we ever said was he would probably need a tow in to the harbour.
unfortunately once i had contacted the owner, and JP things were out of my hands and they saw fit to tow him in whilst he was 50 miles off shore....but never was the word rescue used,my reccomendation was to standby till monday morning.

And... Do not know, what is Boatie's custom, but I always have on board old fashioned, hand held GPS (no maps, simplest functions, low consumption) and a boatload of spare betteries...
By the way, I want to order metal box, isolated inside, as a Faraday box, to store hand held inside (in case of lightning).
