I was very impressed by the sailing performance of the explorer 60 on the 2013 ARC. The Frers designed 60ft cat is not a sportive model but a very comfortable and luxurious boat and even so it took only one day and a half more to cross the Atlantic than the bigger and more sportive Gunboat 62 Zenyatta that is a boat that races frequently on high profile races and sailed with his normal basic racing crew, including the skipper. Finished more then a day before than a Catana 58 and was the 2nd faster cat.

Comparing with monohulls main market cruising boats they made less 10 hours than a Gunfleet 52, 8 hours and a half less than a Hanse 575, about the same over an Oyster 625. Regarding monohull performance cruiesers he made less one hour and a half than a Grand Soleil 56, 12 hours more than a X50 , one day and 4 hours more than a Marten 49 and 13 yours less then a Cruising Pogo 12.50.

The Explorer 60 is not what i would call a performance cat, even if a fast one and I find is performance remarkable. On the ARC they had a sail performance about the same level of real monohull performance cruisers of the same size.

As usual with the cats the only problem is to have money to have them, costing this one about the double of a monohull of about the same size.

A fast and beautiful cruiser no doubt.
