The Galapagos can be very busy and expensive. You can't just cruise wherever you want to either. Most yotties just stay in the harbors and take the daily tour boats. If you want to visit some of the allowed places on your own boat then you must pay $200 per person on your boat per day! And you must hire a National Park guide at $350 per day and that guide gets his/her own cabin on your boat! Usually only big boats go for this. Galapagos was quite cheap to clear into, about $200. There was no extra costs.

Day tours were about US$40 for a day. 3 course set dinner $13 including beer.

If you want to sail aoround the other island it gets expenvise because you must take a park ranger guy, but its much better and cheaper to take a vace t berth in one of the local cruise ships. Book there in San Cristobal and not overseas.

Galapagos is one of the most exciting places i've been.

All i know is that before we went there all the information we got from cruisers was 3/5 of 5/8 of total ********.

We were all told it was illegal to stop anywhere, boat were shoving stuff in their engines to give dirty exhaust to claim an excuse.

Of course the reality is different.

The link you posted the people stayed 5 weeks, we stayed less than 2 weeks so the fee sounds the same.

So the better answer is: the Galapagos are totally unmissable and thus affordable!

Not sure when Mark was there, I was there in 2008 and 2011. One thing for sure from the article above "(5) Expect the rules to change frequently and without notice. Suddenly, for example, on 21 March 2013 it became a legal option to buy diesel in Isla Isabella; previously it was a cloak and dagger operation under cover of darkness!"

I'm very new to sailing.. but I thought there was a rule stating that someone needed to be on watch at all times. I remember when I came across it, my husband and I wondered how solo sailers do it? the movie "All is Lost" comes to mind...

Horse's for course's really.. some use 15-20 min timers and catnap... exhausting.
The folk who DGAS and are a 'danger' to society.. crash when its needed... and have a look around when they get up to pee..
Should caution you.. this approach is not advised in shipping lanes
Doubtless you will now receive a lot of posts on how to solo safely

The people who race solo round the world generally have timers set to wake them every 10 or 15 minutes. apparently they can function well enough by getting short deep grabs of sleep.

But yes, there is a rule stating that someone should be on watch.
