Re: Who's The Designer?
Bequia Chief. If I can get this attached, here is an article from the Independent Journal, April 20, 1974. The Bequia Chief is pictured and described, if briefly.
Custom Built for a Dr. Guy Pouteau of Napa, who was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club at Tiburon. Does not say much more than that, but that is pretty interesting info.
The full title of the paper is the Daily Independent Journal, San Rafael California.

Re: Who's The Designer?
I have a box with a bunch of pictures of the yard and boats in several phases of building. Thought I would share a few.

Re: Who's The Designer?
Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I too have one of those. Looking at your pictures feels like looking at my own ship [edit: I feel like the one in the pictures posted by BluH2o actually was the same? need to ask the previous owner if he went up there around that time].
I'm told mine was laid by Duncan Marine in Taipei in 1976, but finished in Sausalito, CA.
Her name is s/y Kallista, as far as I know I'm the third owner. I'm currently in Marina del Rey, CA.
Do any of you have any technical documentation of the hull and rigging you could share with me?

Re: Who's The Designer?
Hi Jakob, sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I was working on a tug in remote western Alaska. Finished now for the season. And back on Sari Timur in Sitka.. I went through the process of increasing the rigging height a number of years back. So I have quite a lot of info on that if you are interested. PM me back if so

Re: Who's The Designer?
Hi Hugh, they are a bit different than the Vagabonds. The model was called a Freedom 45 but that includes the measurement of all the glass parts of the boat. The actual deck and waterline length are very close to the 42 though the Freedom 45 is a bit wider and full keeled.

Re: Who's The Designer?
Damn sweet looking boat for sure.
I've always contended that the V42 is one of the pretties boats out there.
This one looks equally as scrumptious.
You don't see many of these on the US east coast. I looked for one for years, and finally located one, but it was in sore need of great infusion of $$$$, so finally gave up.
Nonetheless, my love affair with these boats continues.

Re: Who's The Designer?
Yup they are sweet. And I must admit I like the VB 42 maybe even better than mine. They are quick but a bit more tender. But having said that with the new rig I can keep up with the VB 42. And I have cruised mine twice across the Indian Ocean and from Singapore to Alaska and she has never been too much behind the Buddy boats and a lot more comfortable.
Cheers
