can anyone tell me what type of sailboat this is?

I want to go and see it this weekend...I find it facinating

I'm not sure, but it looks like a Folk Boat. That's the one that was advertized with a perkins engine in it. A lot of work, but the engine will be worth the price.

By the look of the external chainplates it's an old schooner of some variety. Often builders built boats like this from their own models and no "designer" was involved.

It is definitely not a folkboat. The folkboat is a pretty and pretty sleek boat.

Definitely not even close to a folkboat. Might be a small Murray Peterson. Definitely schooner rigged originally. Pretty boat. Take it, sell the iron wind, close up the prop aperture if it is sound and rig it up. Tree masts [or laminate from lumber yard stock], make your own sails, rig it with deadeyes and galvanized wire. Have fun. If solid it is a nice boat, and will surprise you when you sail her.

What a pretty boat, the lines that truly sing the song of the sea. From the pictures she appears to be in decent shape, however until you get up close and poke around in the dark places you won't know. Even if she turns out to be a good old girl if you have never had wood boats before understand that the level of work and maintainance involved to keep them in good condition is considerable. wow what are you psychic?? thats exactly what I was thinking ( an old Murray Peterson schooner) fact is I have a friend in need of this engin...the boat would make a most interesting project for my kids and me...dont you think she would make an exelent st laurence gulf sailor???

I grew up in Maine, but never sailed up in the Gulf at all. I don't know the conditions there. If you have never sailed engineless, it is an adventure best begun slowly. I am building my second engineless schooner. The rig may scare the hell out of you at first, but bear with it. First, however, find out how bad that hull is. It may be too far gone. Rebuilding a wooden hull is TIME consuming, and many get left half done because of that. It can also get expensive, especially if you listen to the experts who will tell you that you need x,y,z. Expensive woods are a waste on that boat [on any traditional boat, IMHO]. If the hull us fairly sound you could get her sailing far cheaper than anyone will believe. Canvas sails will work on that boat, and it is easier to deal with than dacron, but not that much cheaper. Two books are a must: Brian Toss The Rigger's Apprentice, and Emiliano Marino The Sailmaker's Apprentice. They both tell it like it is. [Make sure the hull is sound - did I say that?] Don't even think about marine stores [except used chandlery] or exotic woods. You have good boat building wood locally, so use that. Fun project. I have my keel upright and am cleaning it up ready for frame installation. 34'4", 8' beam, Tancook Whaler style.

I hear you Mark...but you should know that I am an extreamly competant and fast worker...been use to working on 10 cars at the same time in the shop...also I own alot of wood land up north...so wood is basicly free for me...if I get this boat to remouski where my land is...we can work on her at leisure when we feel like family time.

iv always been a money maker...becoming a sialor wont change my nature!!! plus I love learning new things, we never know my kids be grow up to be navel architecs??

She's a little schooner designed and built by James D. Rosborough in Halifax, Nova Scotia, probably in the late 60's or early 1970's. They were (unfortunately) built cheap of generally poor materials and were not designed to last long without perfect maintenance......This one looks rough and may be far gone........
