Re: Vendee 2020
So, what happens now? Does this mean that Le Cam is effectively out of the race?
How will he offload his passenger and where?
What a sad thing for them both... and what a high attrition rate for the race.

Re: Vendee 2020
Not at all, the rescued person can't help sailing him, only a passenger until he offloads him, then Le Cam will be given time rewards at the end for his efforts. Happened before.

Re: Vendee 2020
Not only time rewards, though. More food and water. Plus trying to keep the boat which sailed farther than planned together longer.

Re: Vendee 2020
No rescue yet. LeCam made contact but lost him in the swell and couldn't regain anything on the AIS transponder. The other boats have joined the search.

Re: Vendee 2020
All 4 boats participating in the search are carrying out a search pattern established by the organisation. They all have triple reefed mains during this ongoing search.
Waves of 5 meter reported by Jean le Cam. He voice communicated with Kevin Excoffier, but lost sight of the raft in the 5 meter waves.
The AIS-MOB signal from the raft has very limited reception range for the IMOCA boats because of the wave height.
They are expecting better results tomorrow morning with daylight around 5 in the morning.

Re: Vendee 2020
the tracker shows them all milling about at the moment...I did read that Le Cam had found KE in his liferaft, but I guess it was not clear that he picked him up....there is short video clip of Le Cam coming up to PRB boat, which appears to be floating, but upside down.....but now I can't find that clip...
it's night time there right now, sending prayers to all.....

Re: Vendee 2020
Can they send a plane to help searching in the morning or is SA to far out?

News Flash: Kevin Escoffier Rescued by fellow Vendée Globe competitor Jean Le Cam
https://www.vendeeglobe.org/en/news/...or-jean-le-cam
At 0118hrs UTC the PRB Team was informed that their Vendée Globe race skipper Kevin Escoffier (PRB) has been rescued by fellow Vendée Globe competitor Jean Le Cam (Yes We Cam!).
"He's on board with Jean!" These short words came as a huge relief for the whole team, for Escoffier’s family and all those involved in the Vendée Globe

Re: Vendee 2020
I didn’t know this interesting fact, I think I may just start believing in destiny 😊
“On January 6, 2009, during the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe, Vincent Riou, the then the skipper of PRB, rescued Jean Le Cam from his upturned IMOCA 60 which capsized at Cape Horn.”
