Re: Single side band

Unplug any mains power if connected.
Sit outside in cockpit.
On left hand side of radio 'Attenuator' 'off'
Right hand side of radio 'Norm...SSB' to SSB. 'LSB - USB' slider to USB
Direct enter frequency.
Thats it...

Also try picking up wefax signals from Nola or Boston.... they are handy cos they are there pretty much all day on a variety of frequencies... info here http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/marine/rfax.pdf

Also try picking up the time signal from WWV on 5,10 or 15 MHz just to see if your radio is actually working on HF NIST Radio Station WWV

I assume you already have this.. https://www.mwxc.com/marine_weather_services.php

Re: Single side band

And also... just had mine out for a spin.......

Not what I would expect but voice is better on SSB when I set 'Tone' to 'Music'.

The 'Fine Tuning' wheel top right is a bit of a trap...
While not marked to show where 'centre' is you need to centre it to be on frequency... if you rotate and count the smooth bits there are 6 between hard left and hard right... so move to 3 from either end.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Single side band

stnick -
Bear in mind that there are some locations where you will not have a good signal from anybody (Nassau comes to mind). If you can't get good reception with the previous suggestions, try taking the radio somewhere else at the scheduled time.
