Re: Replacement Cockpit Cushions

My neighbor had the same dilemma needing cockpit cushions and they found a remarkable solution at Walmart.. They bought lounge chair cushions already made that look good and hold up very well.

Re: Replacement Cockpit Cushions

The reticulated foam or "drain dry" gets my nod. With a perforated or mesh cover water runs right through. That way your not sitting in a puddle like closed cell and vinyl covers do. Its pricey. Look to Rochfordsupply.com for online retail canvas needs. their prices beat most other retailers by a long shot. They carry a good foam selection too.

Regular foam doesnt do so bad if price is the main concern. Use a solid vinyl cover material and a mesh bottom.

You know.. .I thought of that. In fact.. we have a wooden swing in our back yard that has a basic bench cushion on it.. if I could find one in the right size.. that would probably work.

Re: Replacement Cockpit Cushions

scarlet,

The Walmart deal is probably the cheapest, and you shall have solved the problem.

However, the sense of satisfaction one gets from making stuff for one's boat, is a whole other issue. So, if doing it as a project for the fun of it appeals, don't cheat yourself.

Re: Replacement Cockpit Cushions

We are in the process of replacing all the cushions on our boat (they were almost 30 years old and very tired. The expensive part is the foam, but it is (in my opinion) worth buying good quality upholstery foam, because it should last a lot longer than the cheaper alternatives.
