My new home

Yesterday I had the good fortune to assume custodianship of the beautiful Ms. Sarah Belle from Captain Bruce. Today we'll be sailing her across Lake Superior.

Re: My new home

Looks like wind is against you 15 to 20 knot westerlies today. Tomorrow looks much better with 10 to 15 kts in a favorable direction.

If you leave at about 2300 hrs from the North Entry you could make the Apostles by 2300 hrs Monday night. And then you are half way and will want to lay over Tuesday with higher winds forecast.

The remainder of the week is against you but moderate.

Did you recently purchase this boat in Charleston, SC? Shannon made some great cruisers! Best wishes and fair winds to you.

Re: My new home

We had a spirited trip across Superior! Sunday left us no option but to burn some diesel, but Monday was fast sailing. At 5 PM it got really rough for the last 29 nautical miles with two fronts converging right on our rum line. Tuesday and Wednesday were beautiful, but I was in the marina prepping Sarah Belle for winter storage. I'm going to be sailing on a different boat next week and won't be able to pull her out of the water before the October 16 deadline if I don't do it this week.

I knew a number of the Shannon crew. They built solid, beautiful boats.
Congratulations. You have a fine vessel.
Happy trails to you.

Thank you. I love her. She needs a little work, but every boat I looked at needed some work, and Sarah Belle seemed the most worthy of my efforts.

Re: My new home

We had rough weather between Michigan and Duluth but Sarah Belle handled it like a champ.
