I Bought My Cruiser!

After about a year of researching boats, deciding on a make/model, researching more, changing my mind, (repeat a few times)....I have finally decided on a boat to take cruising! I have an agreement to purchase a 1983 Hunter Cherubini 30'...and I am very excited! Pictures to come on Friday or Saturday!!

Congrats on your newly-owned boat! The adage is that the happiest days are the purchase day and the sale day.

I think the best is any day sailing.

Re: I bought my cruiser!!!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it at a private dock up the Severn River. I live in Loudoun County, VA for now, but will be moving aboard within the next few months, hoping to head south around October time.

Re: I Bought My Cruiser!

Congrats!
My mom and step-dad had one of these and it was a decent bay boat and something that was very forgiving and comfortable. They kept it up on the Middle River, North of Baltimore. Don't know where she is today.

Cheers

Re: I Bought My Cruiser!

Thanks again all. Slight change of plans now. I'm going to take it up to Old Bay Marina in Baltimore to get the bottom painted and sit on the hard for a few months while I equip some solar panels, hopefully an autopilot, and maybe a roller furling jib.

I'm pretty new to sailing, so if anyone needs an extra crew for a day sail, give me a shout! Weekdays are preferred. (I have a flexible job)

Re: I Bought My Cruiser!

I am at the anchorage marina in canton. Right now though, the boat is out of the water getting worked on at the pasadena yacht yard. Should be back in the water at the end of the month. A friend of mine who has his boat with me at the pasadena yacht yard has a hunter 30. He just bought his too.

Re: I Bought My Cruiser!

Congratulations. I had a good friend who had one of those (I think his was an 82 model) and I helped him put a lot of miles on it.

They are sturdy. He hit a submerged dredge pipe in it one time (I was sailing near him and watched him stop like he had slammed on the brakes) that stopped him dead from six knots. He immediately went to a yard and had it hauled and inspected and all he had was a lot of paint missing off of the keel.

I kept looking for one and never found one at a good price.
