That 97 model makes you wonder why someone would buy a new entry level production boat when there are used ones around like this one.

I agree. I've not seen this boat before. Plus, Florian Kirchner is an oft seen name for top quality boats. I would have considered this particular HR when I was looking...

There are quite a few VERY well kept boats in NL and DE. Good place to troll :-)

Particularly when the depreciation will be massive on a new boat and down to a trickle on something like the HR you posted.

Those are indeed nice boats, but it seems they take quite a chunk out of a cruising kitty, and will probably require even more.

For sure they will and do but people with this much money to spend usually won't have a problem. Boat costs certainly do rise exponentially with each foot you add. Double bunks was not the best idea.

Thanks E-Man. I did scout these boats out, and like Das Boot im Deutschland.

But, why the double bunk and that Green Volvo Monster? Yikes!

Unfortunately, the singles beds are often the case on HR.

The Volvo is a good one. The TMD 31 is an engine fitted to many fishing boats in EUROPE land.

Unless you can dish out near $750 K for a new one, you are likely to face a compromise in one aspect or another.

Nothing wrong with Volvo engines, millions in use at this stage. A few lemons like all engines. ( see yanmar 24 valve head issues for comparison )

I confirm ! I had two Volvos, one Yanmar & two Universals... Back in 1982 I was able to dismentle my Volvo MD3B 3 cylinders diesel, I send them to Guadeloupe to have them reamed... They send me back the cylinders with new oversized rings... When I put everything back together with charged batteries, the Volvo went Vrooom ! Try that with a Yanmar ?

I think the draft for the fin keel is 1.80m or a tad under 6 ft. I think the bulb keel has the greater draft.

I have owned a Contest 36s for 30 yrs... the hull was completed in February 1985. I've sailed her tens of thousands of miles most offshore. I've delivered one from NY to Brazil and sailed Gentle Rain with the owner from NY to the Caribbean.

These are well built and well designed boats. They are built to LLoyd's standards and the joinery is as good as you get on any boat. The 36 is a pretty fast boat... I can't comment on the other hulls. I do 150 miles offshore. It's dry boat because of its high freeboard. The architect Dick Zaal thought of everything and I can't say enough about his design. Of course I've done a lot of alterations and upgrades. Everything in the boat it top quality.

I haven't sailed many other boats so I can't compare actually. But I have only praise for the 36s.
