Wauquiez are very good boats. Of course the particular one is what matters, and they are getting long in the tooth.

Not really seeing the value of going smaller in the boats I'm looking at. I would definately be open to sugestions. Looking for comfortable go anywhere quality boat. PS crealock 37 going to be in the 140's can be had cheaper but condition becomes a concern. Saw a 44 for 150, but thats the only one even close to my budget. Shannon 38's can be had for under 100 but the layout is really suited to a couple with guests sleeping on the setee. Any shannon over 38 ft is going to be close to 200 pretty quick. Not a big fan of the vbirth, so think the PS with the pullman up front would be more confortable and practicle.

Once again total novice that just reads a lot, I know I'm asking a lot of questions that have been asked before but it's easier to get more specific answers to my questions to have my own thread. Feel free to tell me I am completely wrong, tell me why an dgive me alternatives. Now is the time. My time table has moved up and 3/4 years will fly by.

If your still working full time and want to do the work yourself, it will take a couple of years to refit. Least it has taken me that, and I will hire out the chainplate replacement and standing rigging next year when we go.

Just one comment on the Pullman. I had two boats with it. A Hans Christian 38 and a Passport 47. I hated both Pullmans. The Pullman cab seemed stuffy with minimal airflow, although both had small hatches overhead. Getting in and out is terrible for the inside (outboard) person, that person HAS to crawl over the other person waking them up, trying to avoid kneeling on him/her etc. in order to get out. It is actually harder than a V berth anyday.
In addition the outboard person has the deck overhang over them, at least partially. If you wake up with a start you're banging your head. It's just always in the back of your mind that you have that right above your head. Put a board across your bed at home some night resting on a couple chairs and maybe 10" over your head or something like that and think about it. Of course there are probably people who like the Pullman, but I would never consider a boat with one again.

I would not care if the boat is local of elsewhere. If you find a boat you like and it is abroad then you just fly out and have a look.

If at this stage you want a broker or surveyor, you just hire one. They are quite common wherever boats are common.

However, over here in Europe, many less expensive boats are bought over the counter. Maybe with a big and complicated one and when you lack experience you want intermediaries but sure this is extra cost.

Our boat was sub 20k and so I just went out (abroad) to look at her, we did a test sail and lifted the boat on dry. Then I just handed over the money and the ex owner handed over the keys. And that was that, way less complicated than most people want.

I love our Pullman, yes you do have to climb over, but in an IP, there is nothing over head, less movement and less noise not being in the bow, my head is right by the mast so close to the boats CG, aft berth is like you say from a head room perspective, being that it is under the cockpit, it is low in there.

A bit of a broad spectrum there.... somewhere between Shannon and Valiant I would be looking at boats like HR,Amel, Moody, Westerly, Ovni.... plenty of good modern boats inhabit the middle ground.

Buying overseas? No biggee and it is all part of the adventure....

About any of the list, no?

Just make sure you get a sound one, not a project one.

Not sure why you want a world sailing capable as it it sort of two modalities either live-aboard or sailing.

I would have any of that list, ex teak deck and excessive wood outside.

And nothing too big unless you are fighting fit and resolved to stay like this for another 20 years.
