Bayfield Fuel Tank Fill-hmmm in or out?

Below is a picture of the fuel cell in my 29 Bayfield. You can see the fill cut into the hatch which someone cut free. There is another fill fitting on the transom to which the red fill hose is attached. I would prefer the fill to be inside the cabin, as it apparently was originally. Or perhaps it had two fuel fills, I really don't know.

I'm wondering whether anyone might be familiar with this type of configuration and if it did indeed originally have both fuel fills connected or just the one on the cabin sole. I would think it had just one but...?
