I'm just curious. Have you called the Dashews and ordered your $2.5 million super mono yet? Or come to your senses and begun pricing Catana 471's? at 1/5 the price?

I think many of you have the wrong idea about the Dashew boats. We sail a Sundeer 64 and it's wonderful and if you can find one it'll cost you half the price of a new 50' Oyster, Swan etc. or less and you out-sail them so bad (incl. the 65 footers of those) that it's just awesome!

But if you want in-mast furling, 30 layers of varnish on the salon table etc. you better look elsewhere. It's just a choice of where to put the money when you design a boat.

For 200 nm days you just do the math: 200/24 means you need to average 8.5 knots. In trade wind conditions this is easily done when your hull speed is 12 knots -and- you can do sustained planing above that. Dashew did a 384 nm day on Beowulf if I'm not mistaken. Divide that by 24... ;-)

The original Sundeer is in Cartagena, moored at club de Pesca and for sale. This is your chance ;-)

Logs don't seem to bear out 200 mile days on a passage regardless of the boat being a mono or a multi. Cruising narratives and voyage logs and blogs from yachts sailing around the world The only way to make consistant 200 mile days is length. LWL dictates speed when running deep or going upwind.

Whatever - the mumby Cyber 48 does 200 mile days - and does them easy. In fact consistently does 240 mile days

The previous owner claimed an avg of 180 crossing the Atlantic from Europe to the Caribbean.

We have not done any trade wind sailing to get a long avg. We have hit 250+ a number of times in 24 hrs. Sometimes the stream at our back, and sometimes 30+ knots on our quarter sailing south with one hull on the beach of Florida in a northern front.

It's possible the whole Pacific is in our very near future. I am eager to see what she can do with some running room in the trades. If it happens I will be sure to share if I am disappointed, or not.........i2f
