1981 Hinterhoeller 26 Niagara

Howdy folks. While searching for first boat, I found one of these locally. Price is affordable and about what I had in mind for upcoming first season. So I'm looking for any info about these boats that you can provide. Understand balsa cored so will check that out. Can't find much on internet about this model but I heard these boats may be better off left at the dock when winds exceed 20 its....? If so, that's a deal breaker. Thanks in advance.

I owned, cruised and raced a Niagara 26 for years, they are great boats. True a little light for a 26 at 4000 lbs but the fractional rig is easy to handle and they sail well under main alone if you’re just out for a slow sail. The Rudder is countbalanced so the load on the helm is minimal no matter what the breeze. They do have balsa core decks and some suffered issues due to improperly installed fittings so check carefully.
