Re: Time for Northwest - Passage 2018

Merely an excuse for the authorities to run their own agenda. The same thing has has been going on on the NE- passage for ages, and it's going to be worse. Until the northpole route opens up..

Northwest passage in 2018?

Great idea for all the climate change believers and alarmists, hopefully they get stuck in the ice there to cool down a little. Would bring the human eco-system back in balance too.

2 dozen yachts went through last year; one yacht, Northabout, transited both the North Sea Route and the North West Passage in a single season. Current conditions would indicate even less ice this coming year.

Quote:
Arctic sea ice extent in December 2017 was below average in both the far northern Atlantic and the Bering Sea, and notably high temperatures prevailed over most of the Arctic, especially over Central Alaska.

jack I don't see your correlation of below average meaning less ice this coming year. The actual ice average for each month so far this growing season has been an increase in both area and volume over previous year.

The current ice extent is below last year's.

The volume is the third lowest

The graph is from January 2, 2018.

Quote:
The graph above shows Arctic sea ice extent as of January 2, 2018, along with daily ice extent data for five previous years. 2017 to 2018 is shown in blue, 2016 to 2017 in green, 2015 to 2014 in orange, 2014 to 2015 in brown, 2013 to 2014 in purple, and 2012 to 2012 in dotted brown. The 1981 to 2010 median is in dark gray. The gray areas around the median line show the interquartile and interdecile ranges of the data.

they can't even average the numbers from one page to the next . 300,000 sq km difference
Would be easy to average before publishing . ( creates distrust of data etal.)

NSIDC does a month end report with an average for the month. The graphs are daily, with a one day delay.

What is so hard to believe? The ice extent is not at the median for 1980-2010. Remember that ice extent is a 15% coverage, not 100%.

I know that however the issue I have is the screenshot I posted shows daily area of world 300,000sqkm more than for the same date in the graph. Why the difference? And no the faq on it says nada as to this specific discrepancy .
I could understand a minor difference due to graphics only going to tenths, and graph going thousandth.

what does the decadal average have to do with major differences of daily numbers from one page to the next.
( actually for the most part it is quite close to the decadal average with exception to the bearing sea.)
a couple areas are actually above decadal average.

The screenshot has no numbers.
