Don’t you need to see a picture of my boat first? LMAO :-)

Yup, I'm with Contessagirl on this one. It sounds like Johnny is being clear with his crew expectations. Nothing wrong with his approach and I wish him well.

All expenses paid and you won’t have to cook, clean, or even help me dock the boat. Wow this sounded good until I thought about it.

I am 6’2” and 220 lbs—- I would never fit on the foredeck of a Contessa 26.

Then of course there was the issue of explaining it to my wife.

So all you want is some guy in a bathing suit to look good on your foredeck?
You do know Borat? The perfect candidate

Thank you, Rabbi! You made my day! No - you made my WEEK! Sacha Baron Cohen was the one thing this thread needed to be absolutely perfect. And of course I would totally go sailing with HIM. But only if Pamela Andersen agrees to come with us! :-)

Sad but true. It’s a fantastic boat for a singlehander ... as long as you’re under 5’10” For anyone over 6 feet cooking requires some ingenuity, and using the head is all but impossible. I’ve met a few tall men who sail Contessas but I don’t know how they manage it ... nor do I plan to ask! :-)

My friend, if you can say that - or even think it - then you definitely need to start hanging out with a better class of boat!

Not my boat though. As Snore pointed out Contessas are way too small for hanky panky. And while I might joke about getting me a male boat bunny I value my safety and my boat too much to ever actually do that. The only photos I’d want from potential crew are of their sailing resume and weather gear">foul weather gear. I have no interest in trying to singlehand my boat while treating a useless passenger for hypothermia, no matter how “hot” he is!

Seriously - and in all kindness - you should think more about your own safety when you advertise for potential crew members. Non-sailors truly don’t understand how rough it can get in a small boat even in coastal waters. And if I read your original post correctly you’re talking about doing some passages that could get really dangeorous if storms and gear failure lined up with a panic attack from a boat bunny who doesn’t have realistic expectations.

Yes, I know it usually turns out fine. But there are also many sad stories of lost boats and lost lives that begin with an experienced sailor taking a non-sailing girlfriend/boyfriend/family member into waters they really shouldn’t be in.

I feel like a party pooper for saying it, but I also kinda feel like someone has to. Good luck! And stay safe....

No, just of one of your sammitches, and maybe your beer list. I know what a Contessa 26 looks like already.

My foul weather gear is shorts and a PFD, in rare cases a tether. And twice so far i added a diving mask just too see my hands
I guess I'm out - plus I'm not sure i want to be called a boat bunny

Lucky bunny! You must be sailing somewhere warm and sunny! On frozen Lake Ontario even round-the-buoy racers pack heavy duty foulies.

On the other hand your snorkel mask idea will definitely work for Arctic sailing. I only ever use mine to untangle crap from my propeller. But now thanks to you it has become a multi-tool. Plus when people ask me why I’m wearing a dive mask I will finally have the perfect excuse to say: “It’s just they’re terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.” :-)

Oh, i just realized i have a neoprene shorty. Does that qualify as foul weather gear?

The snorkelling mask really helps when the sh*t hits the fan and there is so much foam and water airborne that i can't see anything.
Ok, instead of looking like an old salt fighting the elements i look like Kermit the frog but it works.

The weather turns bad so Borat changes from Trikini to green neoprene shorty and snorkelling mask. Looks like Kermit the frog but ready for some serious weather.
