Then if going on deck route: Powerboat Level II (RYA) Maybe Scuba, and other watersports certs, Jetski, etc.
If going on service side, you have Steward, or Housekeeping. Stew will get you as far as Chief Stew, who sometimes controls housekeeping. There, you will need some service oriantated quals, like wine knowlege, silver service, etc...
Your sexual orientation will have no negative effect, and might even help you. But do NOT base the whole career change on that. The yachting industry is very professional, if you do base it on your sexuality, you are looking in the wrong place, maybe a job as a fluffer in a dungeon would be more interesting.
There are tons of Megayacht/Superyacht pages on Facebook. "Crew Helping Crew" "Palma Yacht Crew" and many more.
We know the industry well, trust me, moenie kak praat nie, stick to the primary motivation...you will find love and friends within the industry, but only wave that rainbow flag after hours.

Re: Gay male crew member
A note I thought of since I dated a chief stew on a megayacht for a few years.... NO VISIBLE TATTOOS! At least for the girls, but probably for the boys too. I hate to sound like your mom but don't get that sweet hand or neck tatt while you look for work cause you won't get a job (and if you already have some, it's not gonna be easy from what I've heard)

On some vessel you don't need a resume, the tattoos show all the skipper needs to know, ocean crossings, mileage, ranks, places visited, hurricanes survived, mates lost at sea...

Re: Gay male crew member
With tattoos things will vary.
Now that every idiot has one, they are no longer a taboo thing (in the sea business they never were, in fact).
I think a tattoo will not be a problem to get a job in the entertainment part of the industry (this is to say 90% of the industry).
Some posh Brit owners (royals? 'nobles'?) may still insist on your body being white and your accent hinting Eton, but elsewhere the world has normalized and tattoos are part of everyday picture.

Re: Gay male crew member
Japan, Buckingham, and some other oddball places.
Here (Europe, Spain) even soldiers and police officers can & will have one - many police officers get butterfly tatoos just below their belly buttons.
But like in all good stories, there is a twist ... ;-)

Re: Gay male crew member
I guess we all have our prejudices. I've never had an issue with anyones sexuality. If you are good people it makes no difference to me who you find attractive.
However I have to admit that the tatoo'd pierced crowd put me off. I just can't understand any well adjusted person needing to put on a display like that.
I'd have a problem hiring one. It might not be right but that's the way I feel.

Re: Gay male crew member
Still.
They are OK say in Spain Italy Italia. Also fine in the West Indies, NZ and
and Polynesia.
Have you ever seen a proper Maori without one? C'mon.
In other places, they may be looked down on. But these will be the same places where people will spend hours watching movies with Angelina Jolie. And what is she? All tattooed over!
Just avoid sailing and working in places where some hypocrites will accept An Jo wearing as she likes because she is a white multimillionaire.
But people are right here. If you aim very very high, if you have to climb the distance, avoid permanent markers. Use ballpens instead, and wipe yourself with acetone every Sunday night.
;-)
Have fun. Go for it. It is your life and the best way to own it is to live it your way.
Cheers,
b.

Is a "proper Maori" the same as a "True Scotsman" ?

Hi,
I’m a Boat owner and looking to hire someone to work on my private Yacht. I’m boating on the Mediterranean waters. You will have a private cabin with bathroom and will assist me with handling and maintaining the boat if possible on a yearly basis. If you like this kind of work you will be offered in the future the possibility to get your boat licence on my costs. This do you could learn to drive it by yourself. I’m very layback, and friendly person. We will discuss your salary. Please be so kind to send me some info and pictures about yourself. Kind regards Patrick

I am a heterosexual that truly wishes for the day that sexual preference is irrelevant ... you are a decent person or not.
I wish you good fortune as you search out your future.
