Boating can be wonderfull. Or it can be a way of making a living. The two do not necessarily mix - they can for some people sometimes, but they may not.

Payed work is payed work. It is not about fun. It is about qualifications, abilities, dedication, reliability. It is about meeting and exceeding the expectations of the boss you work for.

Personal fancies are personal fancies.


What I believe could be challenging is expecting to have all three together. The idea (if such an idea should be present, I am not saying, that this is the case) of having an enjoyable cruise while being payed and in addition being able to outlive personal fancies - that might be asking too much, might not work or if it does, it might be in the role of a toy. Which would not be a good long term base for making a living.

I've been hanging around boats and getting well paid to do exactly what I wanted to do every day for more than 30years as have most of my friends. It's a wonderful thing to love your work and get paid for it. Never, ever settle if you do what you love you will suceed.

That is not necessarily a contradiction. If I understand correctly, you enjoy your work which is boating related. I am sure you are professional about your work and your boss (or customers) are pleased with you.

That would be two out of the three I mentioned. Not everyone acchieves combining two, but it happens. Successfully combining all three that I mentioned over a long period of time - chances are small. I am sure it happens, but the chances are small.
