Fresh meat!

I am very new to this industry, just arrived back in uk from Mumbai, Tennis coaching.
I have few experiences in hospitality roles, I've bagged some hotel work, xmas parties ect since I've been back BUT does this matter when I come to look for work????
I've looked into the STCW 95 course which i can do but would rather know my chances of getting work before I spend out.
BASICALLY ....I'm looking for a big hook with some sweet advice 😊

Re: Fresh meat!

your stwc 95 will be the minimum requirement to work on any vessel over 25m,well worth getting it, BOSS and UKSA do courses.

look on facebook groups for various crewing sites, also worth contacting crew placement agencies with your resume.

Re: Fresh meat!

Thank you,
Another little thing.... Which is the best one you recommend? I've half started to go with 'flying fish' not too sure if I like them now though!

Re: Fresh meat!

Do you realise that this forum is not about the maritime industry or working on "cruise ships", it's for people who travel around in small boats, mainly sailing.

it is relevant as most people who work on charter boats and super yachts start off on small yachts to gain experience and sea time.

the sailing schools that cater for your novice cruiser,ie in certification, issue exactly the same certification, for powerboats, yachtmaster etc for entry level skippers and crew, the only difference is these certificates need a commercial endorsement if they are working on a vessel over 25 m and getting paid.
which the STCW95 covers, they also offer qualifications like ENG1 ,MEOL etc which legaly a private yachtsman/cruiser would require to operate a vessel of over 25m for his own use......so excluding work on cruise ships discussing sailing qualifications is relevant on this forum.....though probably not for the old farts that know it all all ready

Oh, I quite agree with you. It's just that it appeared to me that the OP was confused about the purpose of CF, especially with the use of the words "this industry" in the first sentence.
