No, that's the problem. Monstad's suggestion at post 641 has some merit, at least for anyone sailing the US east coast anywhere south of Charleston. It is a long shot that Gil's radio is even on, but how much effort is involved. And a return on a ping gives a solid position.

The drift analysis at this point is at best a rough guess. There are too many variables, and unknown factors that compound over time. My best guess is that Dagny would be slowly dragging her CQR across the bottom along a line about 20 miles off the Georgia coast.

We anchored off west end in may on our way to Florida. It was terrible holding and very rolly. It sounds like your boat dragged. Best of luck!

Every day and hour that passes and any weather compounds further errors into any "drift" calculations. At this point and after so much time, i consider any guesses, with or without calculations, totally irrelevant and just bla-bla-blaing for the sake of blaing.

Seems like knowing how to hand-crank an engine is a good thing. If I recall, diesels normally have too much compression to just slap the crank on it and give it some "umph". My Volvo POS requires you to release the compression, get it whirling with the crank, and then hit the compression release lever.

I've never tried it. Guess I'll add that to my growing list of must-try things that I've learned from Gil.

HE must be the driver of the search and recovery plan. Many have suggested ideas and the 20/20 hindsight discussion, although would do nothing to get his boat back have been useful in that it may prevent this from happening to others.

I think Gil must tell the readers of this forum what he needs from them, what the plan is to recover his boat... and I am sure they will help with money, crew, maybe boats and certainly more ideas. But it's up to him to exploit the good will and resources that CF represents.
