I don't know how the proposed 12GHz band is organized. Presumably it is channelized somehow, so for example multiple beams from the dish, or multiple beams from multiple users, will operate on different channels. It isn't realistic to think that only one provider will have access to all of that. Nor is it true that if Dish enters that space will service interruptions be inevitable. Each gets access to some channels. So that will limit the number of customers each can have, or limit speeds. But service will not just go away. What will happen is that Starlink won't grow as large as Musk hopes for in the US. And Starlink won't be the only choice for high bandwidth wireless.

So each company is employing tactics to try and get more space than the other. It's business as usual and normal negotiations for companies dealing with the FCC and bandwidth allocations.
Newsflash. FCC just approved mobile use for Starlink today.

This is great news to me. I've been beholden to a monopoly cable company for decades now, and I can't wait to get out from under their thumb. We've already cut back to just internet, no TV or phone service from them.

As for Dish, I see their concern. TV has gone from the broadcast model to on-demand streaming. Starlink offers high-speed internet which will support streaming, making them a direct competitor. Surely Dish knows Starlink will speed up their demise.

I still think it was unethical to try to use the power of the government to stifle competition. Of course corporations have no ethics. I don't like it, but that's the way our system works. I'm glad they failed.

Yes there will be at least two more in this space (pun!) - Oneweb and Amazon Kuiper.

Oneweb is more traditional in that it won’t be direct to consumer. You need to purchase through a reseller/partner. No pricing yet but suspect maybe 100%+ or more per month. Oneweb costs are significantly higher than SpaceX so expect that to come through to the end user in some way.

Kuiper - very similar to Starlink, smaller 12 inch antenna (at least the test one is) and service by maybe 2026 - they have to have most of their constellation in place by then but have not launched any sats yet. No idea on pricing but Amazon could eat the costs to keep the end user pricing low.

I have no idea what you’re talking about when you say he’s ripping people off , on what he sells a car ,you want to buy it or you don’t , Internet service you either wanna buy it or you don’t , you have a choice most people that have dish have no choice hence the ripping off

There’s no way Tesla’s is the “ best electric car on the planet “. The S has been a maintenance disaster , the model 3 looks like a Ford inside, the X was a door disaster

The Germans currently do and will out engineer Tesla every day all day. VWs ID range out builds Tesla for quality , dealer service , etc etc.

Nothing wrong with Tesla but let’s not loose the plot.

Well we will agree to disagree on this. I went from two E class estates in a row since 2003 , to a Model X which I drove for almost 5 years. The X cost me a lot less in maintenance than either of the E class. Now I never had the door issue and had the MCU changed to the faster version mid way (at my pushing). Apart from that just brakes and tyres.

I've since changed to a Model Y and so far it's great. You may prefer German cars and that's OK but they have a ways to go to beat Tesla in motor efficiency. Quality is another matter and design is subjective. Each to their own.

That is extremely subjective. Even more so when it's the opinion of someone who hasn't owned both a Tesla and the car they belive is the best EV on the planet.
