Re: Scrapping the boat

I would do like Gary states above, but out the hull on Craigslist for $100. Someone will buy it from you. Or if you can strip it out completely, down to shell, approach some dive clubs if they have the wherewithal to get permits to sink it as an artificial reef

Re: Scrapping the boat

I haven't seen it in the marina. I will keep a lookout.

A center console fishing boat swamped, turned over, and sank in it its slip the other day in that big rain storm. BoatUS was there for hours refloating it as it was up against the seawall and ust have been tricky getting it turned back upright where it was.

It was a pretty nice new boat, but I worry about distressed boats when it rains that much in a short period of time during a storm. I hope all of the bilge pumps are in working condition. A bill from a salvage crew can easily outstrip the scrap value of most boats, not just older ones. Keeping insurance up as well as paying slip fees gets to be much more expensive than many older boats are worth.

Re: Scrapping the boat

I was given a Seidleman 30 which had been stripped of all hardware except the engine and I scrapped it. I wanted the motor. The tally went like this.....

Crane rental (split 3 ways with two other boats 1/3 of $750) = $250
Trucking company to transport boat 100 km = $500
Bin truck to carry cut up hull to dump = $250
Dump fees = $170
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Total cost to me = $1170

Bin guy took lead keel to scrap yard for me, sale of lead + $2100
Sale of Yanmar Diesel motor and trans + $2500
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Net return for the effort ??? PROFIT $3430

I ended up giving the boat I had away and the diesel motor became surplus so I sold it.

Was it worth it? I think so...... YMMV

All dollars are Canadian, Add about 35% for americans.....

Re: Scrapping the boat

Hi, we are just about to start a complete refit on our 35 and maybe interested in some of the parts that are unique to our boats. Rudder, Keel parts etc.
We are down in Florida but are currently in Utah and will be driving home in Sept and could swing by!

edit...Just saw she's for sale ...... someone needs to buy her, these are great sailing boats!!!!!!!! If it comes to scrapping please keep us in mind but she really needs to be kept going.

Take care and best wishes
Andy and Monica
