You do realize Ken is just bored and bitter about having to be back working. He’s tossed some red meat to bait people. Don’t take it.

I actually don't mind working part-time when it enables me to live comfortably in the Med for at least 6 months of the year. It's the cold weather that bothers me.

'Looking for some warmer temps just like the camel.

I'm very concerned about the cooling trend and temps.

If the gulf stream were to disappear or reverse, do you think the naysayers would be convinced? I doubt it. What if the great barrier reef were to die...oh wait, that's happening now...

Back when the NFLD grand bank cod stocks were diminishing, government scientists speculated that the cod had merely changed their migration pattern, and were just "elsewhere". It did not take long to realize that they weren't hiding, they were all gone. At the time, it was hard to believe that man could alter the oceans in such a finite and destructive manner. Easier to bury your head in the sand.
Or stick it in some other dark place!

You could always move to Rochester, NY. Lake Ontario awaits. Been ten or more degrees above average for highs and lows. Clearly this should convince the naysayers climate change is for real. Sailing on fresh water with palm trees year round sounds wonderful to me. Keep it up I could use a break from snow and cold.

GoldenSnowball.com | The Golden Snowball Award is a contest between 5 cities in CNY – Upstate New York. The contest is based on which city receives the most snowfall for the snow season. The cities that compete are Albany, Buffalo, Binghamton, Bunch of masochists here.

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

We should not pollute the Atmosphere anyway, whoever wins the Climate Change debate. Remember, Europe and Acid Rain.

The problem with Climate Change for us will come from the Politicians who will police more Tax laws to fix it and not spend a cent of it on any real cure to slow the human plague assisting Global Warming.

Maybe the attitudes of the multi Nationals will change when Climate Change becomes profitable.

Thumbs up Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Hey, I resemble that remark! We leave places like the Caribbean to come home to western NY, south of Buffalo, for the winter. Makes room for a pair of Snowbirds. This year we got home in time to get over 24" of snow by 15 December! Yes! Come on in, the skiing is fine!

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

From the Weather Channel:

The Algerian town of Ain Sefra, nicknamed the "Gateway to the Desert," received snow earlier this week.
Strong polar fronts from the Mediterranean can occasionally produce snow in the region.
The silken, orange sands of the Sahara Desert are the last place that you would expect to see snow, but photographs from the Algerian town of Ain Sefra show golden orange dunes dusted in white powder, looking more like a ski resort than the "Gateway to the Desert" after a snowfall earlier this week.
"Everyone was stunned to see snow falling in the desert; it is such a rare occurrence," local resident Karim Bouchetata told the Daily Mail. "It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos. The snow stayed for about a day and has now melted away."

With the proof absorbed into the desert sands, some may think the whole thing was an elaborate hoax.

But there’s satellite data to prove it, and, according to weather.com meteorologist Kait Parker, sound meteorological science behind it.
"Although the air is dry and evaporative to an extreme, in the winter strong polar fronts from the Mediterranean can occasionally produce rain, and, in this case, snow," Parker said. "It is not unusual for temperatures to dip below freezing in the winter."
Though it isn’t a common occurrence, snow does fall in the Sahara about once every decade or so when conditions are just right. The last time snow fell in Ain Sefra, which is more than 3,500 feet above sea level and surrounded by the Atlas Mountains, was in February 1979, when a brief blizzard hit the town, CNN reported.
But it hasn’t been nearly that long since other parts of the desert have seen snow, Parker says.
"Both 2012 and 2005 saw dustings of snow in the Sahara, which is actually a good thing as it helps to kill off local parasites."
According to NASA, the January 2005 storm was "the worst in over 50 years" and spread snow across parts of Algeria and Morroco. In 2012, snow fell as far south as Mali, according to Metro UK.

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Spent the better part of a year living in Egypt's eastern desert region a couple of years ago doing archaeological surveys. While we didn't see snow, we need see a bit of sleet and hail during the winter months. It wasn't uncommon to wake up in the morning in March or April to find a bit if ice rime in the tea and coffee cups leftover from the night before....the wind is the killer.

And on a slightly off-topic note: The term "Sahara Desert". The word Sahara is derived from the Arabic word "SaHra", which means desert. So by saying "Sahara Desert" one is basically saying "Desert Desert"!

Re: Sahara Desert Snow Storm

Snow in Sahara is interesting... 25 degrees Fahrenheit in December at the North Pole is much more noteworthy.

Indeed!
“... On Thursday, the temperature there was almost 30 C warmer than average, and it continued into Friday morning. Ocean buoys recorded temperatures near the North Pole of 0 C (32 F) or warmer. That's right: It's warmer in the Arctic than it is in Thunder Bay, Ont ...”
