Raymarine Type 2 Drive question

I'm looking at specs for Raymarine's Type 2 electric linear autopilot drives. Something that seems odd to me is that the short throw versions (both 12 and 24 volt) have lower boat displacement ratings than the long throw versions. Why would that be? Is it because it's assuming your tiller arm will be longer and therefore you'll have a larger torque arm on the rudder shaft? Or is it actually something to do with the gearing inside the drive unit?

Re: Raymarine Type 2 Drive question

The higher displacement spec has nothing to do with the drive itself. The long and short drives are identical, except for the shaft length. The difference is the specified tiller arm for the long drive, which can and should be longer and thus offers a higher torque on the rudder shaft.
