I've just received a marketing email from a mobile (cell phone) service provider that ended with 'Over and out'. Am I the only one that cringes whenever I see or hear that expression?

It was with great trepidation that I opened this thread, expecting to see a cringe worthy initial post by someone unfamiliar with correct radio procedure. Thankfully, I was mistaken about the initial post.

This only bothers pedantic types who get upset when someone doesn't understand the meaning of standard procedures or doesn't think it's okay to be flexible with them.

Better still, hearing old-time CB lingo on a marine VHF channel.

When the "standard procedures" are there for safety reasons, then yep, that's pedantic me!

I am OK with it.

I use it when I want the other party to stop pestering me with their life story.

Otherwise I say 'this is so and so, standing by on channel 16'.

We were still using it in my time along with Sunray for the CO etc.

I have no idea why because every Tom, Dick and Harry knew who you were talking about, even the Ruskies.

So who was Tom, Dick and Harry? other than the 3 escape tunnels.

No one talks on the radios now, it's all very boring. What happened to the:

"Hello one, this is another one" at 2am on a cold night resulting in sniggers all round. Normally followed by "Mary had a little lamb......" Zero, the net controller would go mad but no one would ever own up.
