Ice diving looks like a lot of fun, for someone else, I can't imagine that.

Here is a cool ice dive

That'd be considered pretty balmy around here. Here's a link to ocean temps at my fav surf spot:

Westport-The Corner Water Temperature (Sea) and Wetsuit Guide (Washington, USA)

Note today's temp of 52. Brainfreeze every time you go under even with a winter hood.

Well, the water temperatures at home are 78 degrees today, but they'll drop from this point to 72-75 degrees by early February, so ice cold winter temperatures but we persevere.

It's the lack of activity in the type of diving I do that makes you cold. Activity = increased gas use, shorter dives. Good divers are couch potatoes.

Just spent 2 weeks sailing in SW Florida. Great sun and above average temperature and best of all - no tan lines .

Sounds like a great vacation! Hope nothing important got overdone.... drinking, sailing, swimming. Come on, where did you really think I was going with this

Besides, like many things, skinny dipping cert's do have a shelf life. And so routinely need updating

Just got back from a month in the Caribbean. We saw plenty of nude sailors especially in St. Barths. We almost always shower on the back of the boat...usually at night, but always nude.

Cool Re: Naked Sailing - Truth or Wishful Thinking ?

We sailed for 14 years from Annapolis to Honduras with many years in the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Belize, & Guatemala. We were usually nude with friends or when appropriate. I had 3 pair of boxer shorts that I sowed the fly closed that were my primary clothing when discretion was needed. The shower on our starboard hull was the preferred one with us and our guests. Pareos or Sarongs were a staple dress for both sexes.

OBTW... When we were commissioning our first boat in St. Pete FL, we took it out on a test drive week end and anchored off an island in Tampa Bay.
After dinner, we both showered on our starboard stern and dried off in the lighted cockpit. Minutes later, a camo go-fast DEA boat came up to check us out wearing night vision glasses.

We were sailing on Manta Catamarans, first Sail, Then power Cat. I often wore boat shoes to protect my tender toes, but never had any issues with winch grabbing anything. I did teach sailing on SF Bay and that included winch safety.

We retired from sailing and now have a land yacht and explore the beautiful places in the USA that we have flown over for so many years.

Re: Naked Sailing - Truth or Wishful Thinking ?

Spent an August in the Netherlands, and I can attest that probably 20 percent of the folks on boats were totally naked. I might add that the majority of the women were awesome.

Re: Naked Sailing - Truth or Wishful Thinking ?

It's funny how naked sailing arouses all kinds of responses in different people.

I recently helped an acquaintance deliver his boat up the coast, a short offshore stint. He was not a US citizen, but an english speaker, and mid trip I came up to start my watch and he was standing buck naked at the helm. I'm fine with that, could care less and am perfectly comfortable with it, but would have preferred a little warning, if only to avoid the double take and then his seeming momentary discomfort at needing to explain that he was "a nudist" as he put it.

What I found even more interesting was the range of reactions when I casually shared the story with friends later over some beers. Some, even liberal thinkers, were positively incensed and repulsed at the notion. I sat there dumbfounded, blinking, while they went on a tear about it, and stammered "But I just wanted some warning, that's all..."

That is my memory of the Netherlands as well, gorgeous, beautiful blonds.
We hung out with a bunch of Airforce pilots, we were out on the town with them and one was chasing after this sort of short, dark haired Egyptian girl, I couldn't figure out why as she was rather plain, but to him she was exotic

My first year at university in the uk I shared a flat with two girls from The Hague and my first business trip after graduating was Cairo...

So... Holland 2 - Egypt 0

Are these the ones that think North Carolina should be shunned?
