Magma Igniter not igniting

Out cruising now. Magma kettle grill igniter stopped working.

Googled it. “Just unscrew and put in a new AAA battery”. Tried to unscrew. Just spins, and no way to hold the back of it.

Took whole grill apart. Cannot see how the stainless triangular part that covers the igniter even comes off. Trying to get in there to see what’s up.

Tried to post a pic but cannot figure out how.

Any advice? How to get in there?

Thanks.

I cant help with that, but we always just used one of those handheld BBQ lighters. Even when it's out of butane it still sparks and lights the grill. No batteries to deal with.

Re: Magma Igniter not igniting

Some of them didn't have batteries and where just mechanical.

Had a similar issue w/our kettle grill (no batteries). Took it apart and turned out to be a short/bare wire from the igniter grounding out the spark (can see it in the dark). Had to buy a long length of insulator just to fix the couple of inches of wire from grounding out.
Igniter works great now, but a bit of a pain to fix.
Cheechako suggested an simpler/easier fix and would go that route.

That's the way to go. And you can light your cigar with it too.

Butane lighters are for old-school Ludites. Get one of these rechargeable lighters and a ThermaPen while you at it, so your steaks are perfect temperature.

Re: Magma Igniter not igniting

Every Magma grill I've ever had (I'm on my 3rd), all had piezo lighters (no battery). They do get gummed up with whatever carbon, ash, grease combo grows in the bottom of the grill. If it can't be cleaned, it can be replaced.

All magma grills are 100 serviceable with parts for everything. IF it's a kettle style, then good luck getting that thing apart once the parts have been married. The whole assembly seemed to be held together with the threads of the burner which seem to cold weld themselves together. I've ended up tossing two kettle style grills before going over to the rectangular kind.

Re: Magma Igniter not igniting

Thanks so far for the replies.

The long-neck lighter won’t work. Unless one is willing to remove the greasy grating and remove the greasy drip shield each time. Replace and wash grease off hands. And also every one of those lighters I have bought in my life has broken after a minimal amount of uses.

I can unscrew the burner and take it off. But even then I cannot figure out how to remove the igniter button. The triangular stainless part the the button lives in does not seem removable.

Drill hole in side.
Buy USB rechargeable igniter for $9 on Amazon, It's been working fine for over a year and we use it 5-6 times/wk.
Problem solved

Yes I agree with just getting a lighter which is easy.
