Looking for Deckhand Work in Late Winter . . . Advice ?

hey everybody,

so right now im a senior in high school. I go to an independent school, and part of the curriculum is a senior project, where the school gives us 3-4 weeks to spend pursuing an interest of ours.

I've always loved sailing (the few times i've been on a sailboat ive been fascinated) and just the general atmosphere of being around the water, but i've never had any experience actually sailing (grew up in upstate ny). I'm looking for a way to become a deckhand on a sailboat for those 3-4 weeks, and learn as much as i can about sailing. are there programs that can help me out with this? if not, could someone please point me in the right direction?

Also, what time of the year do these 3 to 4 weeks you speak of occur? If it is soon, within the next few months, you will be better off in the southern states or the Caribbean doing your sailing. The North Atlantic at this time of the year is not a pleasant place to be.
