On this one, you can't see squat on either side sail or no sail.

But unlike that tiller helmed catamaran thing, there's no massive wheelhouse or whatever it's called, totally blocking the helmsman's view.

Are you sure those weren't emergency tillers? I'm thinking they were.

With a Foresail you cant see squat if it sweeps the deck...

I have been on the Broadblue.
1/. YOu can see through the cabin.... it has windows.
2/. The sails are high enough to not obstruct.
3/. I have been on boats with deck sweeping sails and you really cant see through them unless they cut plastic views in..

SO all in all, its the same problem on monos and this particular Cat.

PS... I did my homework.

However at close to £1.3M.... the Broadblue is out of my league.

I also note you didnt watch the video or else these questions would be redundant...

1/. then I have to contact my cell phone company and get the same sim number.
2/. then reload the saved messages to that number.

Oh now I understand.... the guy in the picture is a dwarf, barely three ft tall. Now your observations make perfect sense. When I first saw the picture, I thought the guy on the tiller was of average height. Honest mistake.

Those clever marketing guys trying to make a forty footer look like a fifty footer.

Exactly! If it's sailing you want, then tiller steering is the way to go, right up to a size of vessel so heavy that you cannot manage the tiller.

If it's precision and easy of steering you want, then the way to go is the joy-stick. Regardless of where it/they is/are located. The technical complications that go with that, is just a price you have to pay. Or choose to pay, if you are seriously into toys.

Either way, steering wheels have no place in the cockpit, nor below decks, in small cruising boats precisely for the reason that they dominate and wreck scarce space that should be used for purposes more productive of comfort.

Let me make sure I have this correct.
I have been on deck sweeping sailboats.
I have been on the Broadblue.

We will leave it at that...

In all seriousness, if I had that kind of money, I think Darren has designed an amazing boat.... it is so innovative, I would consider it. His Dazcats are amazing.

Its not a purist boat thats for sure... Its appeal will be limited by the price.
Sad but thats the way it is..

But, truly, we generally hang out there and keep watch, maybe we're paranoid?

Ann, that's not paranoia.

naah.... just leaving the reality where it is...

So

I order a new phone today... I decided that given the proclivities of some people, I also ordered a linked chain and bonded end to glue on the phone and chain to my bag or belt as desired. A light fingered person will be surprised when he finds me attached to the phone.. Stupid to steal phones... I just google it and wiped it.. and locked it..

This time Im not having a few hundred in a phone.

5.0'' DOOGEEX5 MAX PRO IPS 4G Smartphone Android 6.0 Marshmallow MT6737 Quad Core 1.3GHz Mobile Phone Dual SIM 2GB RAM 16GB ROM Smart Wake Air Gestures Fingerprint 4000mAh battery Dual ID GPS WIFI.

£65:99.

Doogee is my favourite Chinese manufacture... actually made in Spain! I buy this brand as gift for family... never had a fault yet, unless you count theft.. Grump grump.

Re: Grumpy old men and boats.

Ken,

No, not exactly. I am saying that when it is light, and there are many boats around, with closely coupled geographic features, we prefer to hand steer. I would say this could not be more than 10% of the time. Sometimes, we'll elect to hand steer in heavier weather, as well, one really feels the power of the boat...we think it is fun! we like interacting with some kinds of weather.

.........And now, back to boat gripes!

Ann

Re: Grumpy old men and boats.

FFS, I've crossed oceans, & played tag with Russian submarines, on naval warships smaller & less complex than this thing.

To me it just ain't sailing on things like this "boat", much as is the case on mega yachts. Why go out on the ocean if the only difference between being there & at home is the view? Part of what makes up "sailing" is the skills & efforts which go into it.
It's this lunatic mindset of more, more, more, which has me ever contemplating larger & more complex yachts (in my search for one). But really, what's the point once one's basic needs are met? Sure, a few luxuries are nice. But "sailing" aournd in a glass box which isolates you from the world?

Weavis,

My iphone got crushed two weeks ago, so while waiting for repairs, I've been using my ipad to make free calls over the internet. Haven't really missed the phone at all.

Re: Grumpy old men and boats.

I am tossing out my 30 yr old Line 7 foulies almost never ever used... I only drive manually (at helm) motoring to and from dock or mooring... or when the sailing is glorious and fun.

Sailing is an outdoor activity.... in case you forgot. Be prepared for weather... or watch it on YouTube.
