Gain or Lose Weight?

Did you gain or lose weight when you started cruising full time?

Re: Gain or Lose Weight?

For some reason, while my wife and I are on a passage, we tend to eat very lightly and we frequently lose weight if the passage is long enough. However, when we’re in port or in an anchorage, especially if it’s not convenient to get exercise, we’ll often gain weight. Also, since socializing usually takes place when we’re not underway, the consumption of beverages and snack foods increases and adds to weight gain.

When we were in Thailand, though, the marina we stayed at had a fairly decent exercise room and we took advantage of it almost daily. We left there in better shape than we had been any time previous.

Fair winds and calm seas.

^^ as above - loose weight on a passage, gain weight at anchor. Not sure how to vote on your poll.

There are no doughnut shops outside the three mile limit.

No noticeable difference.

We also largely eat the same foods unless something is convenient locally...like the shrimp boat docks.

Re: Gain or Lose Weight?

I start to lose weight the moment I step aboard. If I am on the boat, at the marina or cruising, for more than a few days, friends comment that I look "different", but they are never can tell me (or are too polite) in which way I look different.

The bathroom scales are more direct in their expression.
